Junior 3/6k obstacle run

Let them loose on the 3K course with the option of doing a second lap!

Junior Wolf is a thrilling 3K off-road adventure course packed with obstacles, mud and excitement, designed especially for 7–17 year olds.

Expect rope climbs, water crossings, monkey bars and plenty of mud, all delivered in a fun, supportive and non-competitive environment where every child can take part in their own way.

Runners start in waves every 10 minutes over the course of an hour, creating an exciting but relaxed atmosphere. Children are encouraged to challenge themselves at their own pace.

Older wolves may sprint round and tackle every obstacle with speed and agility, while younger or more cautious runners can take things steadily with support from parents or marshals. Any obstacle can be skipped.

For older or more athletic children, there’s the option to run a second lap free of charge, turning the challenge into a 6K Junior Wolf Run.

Junior Wolf isn’t just a fun day out. It helps build strength, resilience and confidence, leaving kids feeling proud, capable and buzzing with achievement.

It’s an unforgettable outdoor adventure to share with family and friends.

Junior Obstacles

Junior Wolf Run obstacles are designed to be fun, challenging and confidence building, giving young runners the chance to test their strength, balance and determination in a safe, supportive environment.

Built by the same experienced Wolf Run team and developed alongside engineers, every junior obstacle is carefully planned, thoroughly tested and scaled appropriately for younger participants.

Using natural materials such as wood, rope, mud and the landscape itself, the Junior obstacles encourage movement, teamwork and problem solving.

Full FAQs

How old must I be to take part?

Wolf Run Juniors must be aged 7 to 17 years on the day of the event. Adults can enter to run alongside their children by booking a ticket also.  The Junior course obstacles are designed for both adults and children and medals are presented to everyone at the finish.

Can my child run alone, or do I need to buy a ticket too?

For under 12s it's compulsory that they have a registered participating accompanying adult. If not a parent, an adult nominated by a parent or legal guardian. An accompanying adult may be responsible for up to but no more than 3 children. 12-17 year olds can run with family, friends or unaccompanied as long as you have a signed guardian consent/waiver through your profile.

What time are the Junior events?

Junior Wolf and Wolf Trails take place on Sunday mornings, typically starting between 9am and 10am.

Participants set off in waves of around 100 runners every 10 minutes over a 1-2 hour period. Children finish in their own time, at their own pace but the average is around 35 mins for the 3k course.

What distance is the Wolf Run Junior?

Wolf Run Junior - The course is 3 km with the option to do a second lap (start times after 10.30 only 1 lap is possible). Once you exit the course and cross the finish line you will not be permitted re-entry.

Wolf Run Trails  - 3k 5k and 10k of pure off road running.

Can an adult run both events on the same day?

Yes, most of the time this is possible. However, if you want to run multiple events on one day please let us know at info@thewolfrun.com so that we can adjust your start times to enable you to complete two events.

Is there a water stop?

Yes there will be a water stop at the half way mark and a bottle of water at the finish line.

Can I bring supporters?

Absolutely. Entry to the event village is free for supporters, so friends and family are welcome to soak up the atmosphere and cheer runners on.

Please note that parking charges (£5 per car) do apply so we recommend car sharing where possible.

How do you keep Junior events safe?

Safety is fundamental to Wolf Run. Backed by 15 years of experience, we are a well-established and respected brand known for delivering safe, professionally run events.

We have a fully equipped, state-of-the-art medical tent on site, staffed by qualified medical professionals, including multiple doctors and nurses, throughout the event. While they mostly spend their day treating grazes, bumps, we deliberately invest heavily in this area to ensure the highest level of care is always available.

Every obstacle is staffed by experienced marshals, many of whom return year after year. Marshals are positioned at every obstacle and key point on the course and are in constant radio contact with event crew, managers and the medical team, so support is never far away.

Our event teams are fully trained in health and safety, from building to event management, with clear procedures in place across the course and event village. This experience, combined with careful course layout and design, means Junior Wolf events consistently operate with very low injury rates.

Junior courses are specifically designed for children. They do not include the more extreme adult obstacles such as high nets, long lake swims or larger slides. Obstacles are built to be age-appropriate, well supervised and built with safety in mind.

Importantly, the event is non-competitive, and children are never pressured to do anything they don’t want to do. Any obstacle can be skipped, no questions asked, and adults are welcome to support and encourage children at their own pace.

Our aim is to create a fun, confidence-building adventure where children feel supported, safe and proud of what they achieve.

What to wear

This depends on the weather, but expect your child to get wet, muddy and possibly cold. We recommend:

  • Lightweight running clothing - a technical t-shirt, base layer or swimming rash vest works brilliantly, paired with shorts or leggings
  • Trail or running shoes with good grip (no spikes, as some surfaces are hard or stony, and spikes can be dangerous on obstacles)
  • Gloves can be helpful in cooler weather
  • Avoid cotton, as it absorbs water and becomes very heavy
  • Hoodies and joggers are not advised for the obstacle events
  • If it's sunny, bring sun cream
  • We don't recommend sunglasses as they're very easy to lose
  • Once finished, a towel and a full change of clothes are strongly advised… and dry shoes, flip flops or sliders for afterwards are a very good idea!

Training

Your child doesn't need to train to take part in a Junior Wolf Run. Many children walk sections and go entirely at their own pace - it's not a race!

However, for those who want to feel more prepared, we have simple, family-friendly training plans available below.

For 6K runners, parkrun is a brilliant place to start building running confidence before event day. For 3K runners, junior parkrun is perfect.
